In this lesson you learn on of the most important skills in DJing. Blending (aka beat matching), is a method of transition from one record to another within your set. When blending, skilled DJ's pride themselves on transitions that are seamless and smooth. Blending is one of the more difficult styles of transitions, but when executed flawlessly they can really make your sets stand out.
Key Lesson Points:
- blending is a fundamental DJ skill, like dribbling is fundamental to basketball
- at the beginning and intermediate levels, Blending is a good way to gauge a DJ's skill... it separates the boys from men
- learn how to Baby Scratch to begin your record blend transition
- learn how to blend without touching the record
- skilled DJ's know how to blend, and pride themselves on clean blends and transitions. Amateur DJ's don’t know how to blend, or can't blend cleanly, they are notorious for "Train-Wrecks" in the mix (blends that sound like "shoes in the dryer").
